The original Hot Brown was created at the Brown Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky. Who knew that years later Truett Cathy would create a small restaurant called the Dwarf Grill, he would create a version of the Hot Brown to call his own? Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup shredded parmesan cheese
  • salt, pepper, and paprika to the taste
  • 16-20 Chick-Fil-A Nuggets
  • 4 strips bacon fried crispy
  • 4 slices Bread Toasted
  • 1/2 cup cheddar cheese

Instructions

  • In a medium-sized saucepan melt butter, whisk in flour to create a roux, cook the roux for approximately two minutes while whisking continuously.
  • Stir cream and milk into the roux and cook until thick sauce forms over medium heat, stirring continuously and scraping the bottom so it doesn’t burn. Remove from heat just before it reaches a boil. Stir in parmesan cheese until melted and sauce thickens. Add salt, pepper and paprika to taste.
  • To assemble hot browns, place two slices of the toast in an oven safe dish. Arrange nuggets on each slice of toast and cover in sauce. Sprinkle with cheddar cheese and place bacon on top. Place under broiler until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

  2. I love a hot brown. But this doesn’t really taste like one.
All the cheese gives it a different taste and consistency. Also a.bit salty.

I made this with crumbled sausage instead of chicken and it turned out more like a breakfast dish. Also instead of putting in the broiler I put it in the microwave like Chick fil a does when they make it at the Dwarf House. The Mornay sauce is very delicious and saved the leftover to use on another dish.

Good but not like chick filet sauce. Too much parmesan made it more of an alfredo sauce. A plus for the effort.
