Recently I was a guest of Costa Rica Family Holidays, a branch of Il Viaggio Travel, and visited the beautiful and lush country of Costa Rica. It was such an amazing experience. The specialized tours that they offer for families are unparalleled and they are a top choice for family vacations in Costa Rica. Here are the top reasons that we love them and recommend them to anyone.

They Understand Families

Il Viaggio is a family owned and run operation. The owners are super friendly and have a family of their own, so they know what families need when they go on vacation. They’ve taken the time to truly vet the attractions, restaurants, resorts, and locations they visit. They are constantly striving to make sure they create a personal and authentic experience for each family. No two tours they give are the same.

They are aware of the little things, like strollers at parks.

Well before your trip, they’ll get to know you and your family, your expectations, and your special needs if you have them. What regions of Costa Rica would you like to see? Is the rainforest or beach more important? Do you have young children that are stroller bound or not capable of walking long distances? Food allergies? Il Viaggio asks all of these questions and more so you’ll have the best trip possible. They cover all of the angles.

During your stay they’ll continue to get to know you and by the end of our tour, I felt like I was part of the Il Viaggio family and they were part of mine. They go the extra mile to know who you are and what your needs are. This is especially important when you’re traveling with kids.

They Know Costa Rica

Costa Rica isn’t a huge country. Geographically it’s only about the size of West Virginia, but it is diverse. They have two oceanic coasts, multiple volcanos, urban cities, and tropical rainforest. The country goes from sea level up to an elevation of 12,536 ft and back again. Il Viaggio knows the entire country and they are super knowledgeable of its destinations. As I spent time with them it became clear that they are experts in culture, history, geography, agriculture and climate as well. They really know their country.

Depending on what you prefer, they can make any arrangements you’d like, anywhere in the country. If you have any special requests they can make it happen. You can be as involved in the planning process as you’d like or let them take care of everything. They handle the entire spectrum of vacation planning.

Full-time Tour Guides and Driver

Diego the best family tour guide around!

One of the best parts of traveling with Il Viaggio is that you have a full-time guide and driver no extra cost to you. Imagine, you’re just able to sit back and relax as you take in the scenery and beauty of a new country with your family. No navigation concerns, wrong turns, or rental cars, just you and your family on vacation.

As the dad, who is usually the driver, this was awesome. Taking everything in during the drives instead of concentrating on the road is such a nice perk.

All the guides fluent in both Spanish and English for you so you won’t have to be concerned about language barriers either.

Did I mention that it isn’t an added cost? Il Viaggio has negotiated contracts with the places you stay and eat to include room and board for the driver/guide of your group. Just another way that the Il Viaggio goes above and beyond their competitors.

Also, the tour guides are familiar to family travel and understand the needs of families on vacation. It is nice to have a tour guide recognize that it is time for a nap or that kids need to stretch their legs during long car rides.

Perfect Costa Rica Family Friendly Activities

Depending on your family’s age range, adventure level, and travel preferences, you’ll have a variety of activities to take part in. They take into account your family’s needs and plan just for you. They’ll make sure to keep you entertained while you’re in the country. Beaches, rainforest hikes, coffee plantation tours, museums, cultural shows, zip lines, really they have it all.

Family Friendly Costa Rican Hotels

All Hotels are Family Friendly

The hotels that Il Viaggio stays with have been intensely vetted for families. There is nothing worse for a family with a baby than to get to a hotel for the night and find out they don’t have cribs. I’ve been there more than a few times and it is frustrating. Every hotel you stay at is truly kid-friendly and family-friendly. Most offer larger accommodations for groups, taking into account young kids and large families too. All hotels have pools and on-site laundry as well as other family-friendly features.

Curated Authentic Costa Rican Restaurants

Costa Rican Food is Delicious!

Like the hotels, all of the food options are properly vetted to be kid-friendly, yet adventurous. They’re familiar with menu options and your family’s dietary preferences, so there is no need to worry. Even if you have picky kids that won’t touch any of the local cuisines, they’ve got you covered. By the way, Costa Rican food is delicious and not as spicy as many other Latin American countries. I didn’t have anything that I didn’t care for the entire trip.

Costa Rican Disabled Access Travel

To be truly family serving Il Viaggio has taken into account all age groups and accessibility needs. They are the only company in Costa Rica that offers fully handicap accessible tours. If you or a member of your family has special needs, no worries, they can take care of you. They can accommodate groups of wheelchair-bound patrons, children with severe autism, elderly grandparents, and more. Entire itineraries have been developed where every destination and activity is handicap accessible. They are truly pioneers in this area, especially in Central America, where accessibility awareness is still a growing area.

Educational Activities

As a parent, a huge reason that I travel with my kids is to expand their horizons. I want them to experience the culture, cuisine, and local society of every new place we visit. I want them to learn about the world and have authentic experiences everywhere we go.

Many of the activities available to you with Costa Rica Family Holidays are educational and fun. There is a certain pride you can take as a parent when your kids learn while having a blast on vacation.

Also, they’ve committed 1% of all of the Costa Rica Family Holidays packages will go to a non profit organization to support future accessible projects.

And as a bonus…

Super Eco Friendly

Planting a Tree to Offset Carbon Use

With every trip they take, Il Viaggio makes sure to do everything they can to reduce, recycle, and reuse. They’re truly doing their part to keep Costa Rica beautiful. As part of our trip, we even planted trees in the rainforest to offset the carbon footprint for our visit. Conservation is such an important thing to teach our children again, all while having fun.

All things considered, if you’re going to plan a trip to Costa Rica with your family consider using Costa Rica Family Holidays. Our experience with them was incredible.
