“Expert” Tips For Traveling With Children
The post to which I explain that even though my 3.5 year old has been on over 75 flights, I still claim to be no expert at traveling with young children.
I have read so many posts… SO MANY posts on traveling with young children and have even been guilty as to write a few myself as well. So many of them are merely just common sense wrapped up in a neat and tidy package and sold as “helpful.” And the sadder part is that some people really do need these posts (guilty).
First time traveling with a baby? Frightening. It’s helpful to read from someone who has been there done that and lived to tell about it. But the truth is, no matter how many times you have traveled with children there are no experts out there. My 3.5 year old has been on over 75 flights. 75!!!!!!!!! That is A LOT of flights people! More than most will ever take in their life. And guess what, I was on every single one of those with her and for like 20 of them there were multiple children and I still don’t consider myself an expert.
Case in point- let’s take a look at my last flight. A one-way from Las Vegas to Nashville. I had a 3.5 year old, 1.5 year old and a two-week old baby. By logic I had traveled numerous amounts of times with young children and even had the help of my mother in law, so this should have been a breeze right? Wrong. W.R.O.N.G. hands down the worst flight I have ever been on. All three took turns screaming and at one point I seriously considered jumping ship. BUt guess what- I had done my homework, I had packed snacks, I had an ipad stocked with kids movies, they had new toys and books, and all their comfort items. Even though I was super prepared and experienced it was still miserable. Truth is there are no “experts” in children travel because kids are so darn unpredictable.
All we “experts” can do is lend a sympathetic shoulder to cry on because we have been there and hope and pray that maybe some of our tips can ease the sting and make it a little more bearable. Because by the way- traveling with children is so worth it.
